Store Opening/Store Closing 2.0

Looking for a Bay Ridge Doctor? Good Chinese food? Etc...

I also checked out SAM'S CAFE and it's still closed. They have a sign on the door for deliveries to go around the corner. I took a peek inside and EVERYTHING is still there.
Looks like they could still start back up any day. I hope so.

Looks as if St. Germaine has closed for good. Some time back, the original owners sold it; apparently the new owners didn't make a go of it (when I went in to buy pastries from the display case in the front a couple of months ago, the prices were so sky high - 3 little goodies for $21 - that I ended up buying nothing. Apparently others felt the same way.)

At 5th Ave and 75th, see the awning for the new Brooklyn Pretzel Company.
Is this going to be similar to the chain spot on 86th?

Don't recall seeing a realtor sign at any point on that building. What has been posted for quite some time is the name of the construction company. It's a blue and white sign that may look like a realtor's.......

Defunct Ski Bar on 5th and 74th, now a Hookah joint called " Blow "

The name is right in the middle of a huge black background with about 5 feet of empty space before and after the word BLOW.

nah it definitey said something about "for rent"...but like Laura said, maybe it was for the upstairs space. Or they were advertising space they have somewhere else for rent. And the sign was about half the size as the construction company sign that's now in the window.

Funny, especially since they mostly suck in these joints.

Maybe they got name and p.r. tips from the Easy Come restaurant at 87th and Fourth. (Its huge flashing multicolor "Easy Come" sign probably shows up on satellite photos.)

David's Brisket House is opening a BR location on Fifth Ave near 77th St. Just saw their sign up there, checked online and it looks like they will be opening soon, within the next few weeks. If we're lucky, maybe they will provide what Gold Coast didn't. I've never eaten at the original location in Bed-Stuy but they have a great reputation.

So that's what's going in on 77th.

On another note, the folks on the parenting board are raving about the new bar that opened up in the old Leif Erikson place. They said they have great food and a great selection of beer. Anyone been yet?

This is definitely going to be interesting. Royal Diner is just a block away (I maintain the best diner in the 'hood) and so is Mejlander & Mulgannon. Then there's Leske's re-opening soon. The 76th and 77th St blocks on 5th Ave are quick becoming a food destination.

Here's the menu for David's Brisket: http://www.davidsbriskethouseinc.com/

Word on the street.........

Gold Coast spot will become a brick oven pizza & pasta spot called Abitino's. The family owns a bunch of pizzerias throughout NYC.

And Huckleberry's will also become a pasta spot.

I thought Gold Coast was becoming an Italian Market/Salumeria type place? At least that's what I read in one of the local papers.

Also, what's up with Ballybunion? Major construction going on there.

And the former Tiny Tots children's haircut place on 97th and 3rd has some action going on as well.

You're either thinking of the former Blockbuster space (on 81st & 3rd) or the former Rich & Vinnie's space (on 86th & 3rd).

Wicked Monk is moving to the former BallyBunion space.

Rite Aid just closed their photo processing dept, as assume all drug stores will be doing.

And the pizzeria going into Gold Coast doesn't not get too many good review on yelp. (they have a few locations in NYC)

Like YIPS in the city??? Their BBQ Chicken is like red crack!!! Can't wait.

Looks like Piattini Ristorante on 99th and 4th is out. Paper lining the windows.

Also, the former Tiny Tots on 97th and 3rd is going to be a regular Unisex beauty salon called Bellagio. Signs went up today.

And I'm standing pat on Gold Coast being more than just a pizzeria. I distinctly remember reading an entire article somewhere about it. Besides, a pizzeria right across from Casa Calamari? Seems stupid to me.

Fresca has been closed for at least a few weeks, maybe even a month now. I never tried them, but I heard not-so-good reviews about their pastries when they were located on fort hamilton pkwy, so I'm not all that surprised that they didn't last long with the move to 5th Avenue.

I asked one of the managers in the 79th and 3rd Rite Aid if they were closing and he said no, they are remodeling. I think they recently remodeled the one on 93rd and 3rd.

Has anyone been to the new pretzel place on 5th in the 70s? Are they ridiculously expensive like Auntie Anne's Pretzels?

I read recently that the new school building on 89th and 4th across from 7-11 is a K-1 school that used to be housed around the corner from 7-11. K-1? Isn't that kind of a large building for only two grades? And where on earth do all those kids enter 2nd grade?

It's not only going to be K-1, it will go to 5th grade. Perhaps you got it confused because the Pre-K & K that was housed in the early childhood building around the corner from 7-11 (I didn't realize that 1st grade was housed there too) is being moved to the new school building on 4th Ave. But those won't be the only grades there.

I was in Bean Post in June, before the pretzel place opened. Someone brought over a few pretzels for people in the bar to try. It was good, but I haven't been there since they opened, so I don't know what they cost
