I've been a lurker for some time, and relatively new to the neighborhood. Having followed this closely, I had to chime in with my 2 cents.

I have been to the halal cart. I have been to Lonestar. I'm what some call a "foodie" and I work in the food industry/small business in another Brooklyn neighborhood.

That being said, I plan on not supporting Lonestar any more. I'm disgusted by the behavior by the owner - food carts are everywhere. They need to get over it. Or open one of their own if they're so jealous. But how DARE they try to hurt someone who is doing a legal business and being responsible about it.

As any bar owner would know, you can not be responsible for the actions of your patrons. Same goes for restaurant/food cart owners. In my experience in the neighborhood, nobody has ever shouted, what could be borderline sexual harrassment, at me when walking past the Halal carts at night. I wish I could say the same about most of the bars in the neighborhood (yes, even Lonestar).

I'm actually quite repulsed by this story - the benches, the human barricade, the politics - and therefore will not give a single cent of my hard-earned income at Lonestar. However, a shawarma sounds delicious about now....

YAWN, if I could operate a food cart outside my business I would, but legally you need to be 20 ft from any door, so therefore I cannot. This story repulses you, WHY, cause people comment at you when walking past bars? serious? poor you. that's a non-issue, that's a fact of life, I wish I had a penny for every time some horny toad passes comments my way.

The behavior by you and the owner of Lonestar are despicable. I can handle the shouts (I admit, I am pretty hot, hahaha!), however I can not justify your immature posts or the actions of the owner of Lonestar. File the permits, open a food cart on 86th street. Many, many, many excellent food carts and trucks have started out that way and opened storefronts. It seems like there are tinges of racism in the hatred, let alone the fact you're not being a supportive local business.

Lonestar - don't pay any attention to what people say on here....they are bored of the Dan/Horse shannigans and there hasn't been a lot of news floating around on here.

Everyone knows if that cart sat outside their home or on the corner of their block at some point it would bother them too. If the cart was on Third Avenue, the Third Avenue Merchants would have banned together and somehow got rid of the cart either by getting the politicians on their side or finding some loophole in the law that didn't permit the cart on their Avenue.

And people on this board can say it's legal for them to be there....it is until you get the law changed. There has to be something about them being able to occupy the same spot for 365 days - every year. It doesn't seem fair to restaurants and establishments in the area to have to take the hit. How can a cart essentially have residency here everyday and not pay taxes?

And finally, the fact of the matter is that your place makes some great ribs, coleslaw and from what people in my house have said 'one of the best bacon cheeseburgers' they have ever eaten.

And BRT people quit being nasty and looking to cause drama like this. You guys would never speak like this in person to someone.

Your argument about the cart sitting outside someones house is kind of moot - carts only get permits for commercially zoned areas. They're not allowed to set up in primarily residential areas. It sounds like you'd almost be arguing for a tenant to get a bar shut down that they live near - even if the bar's been there for many years.

Instead of changing the laws, perhaps people should welcome the carts to their community. Happy, friendly businesses are successful ones. Food trucks and carts are popular, and trendy. They're not going anywhere.

There's nothing to "concede," unless you regard law as optional. Recall the earlier story in which a police source stated that one person "would have been taken away in handcuffs since he was preventing a permitted merchant from doing business on a city sidewalk."
It's as if I "conceded" that stop signs meant stop or that I had no right to padlock someone else's business.

I'm frankly surprised that assumed-responsible adults would bolt illegal benches onto a sidewalk and/or try to physically block someone from doing business, as if they were the law and only their views mattered. Aside from illegality, it showed really poor + shoot-self-in-foot judgment and lack of forethought.

As the resident fat guy of BRT. I do enjoy the food cart from time to time and will continue to get the occasional falafel from them.
That being said to call L* food bad is ridiculous. It's one of the few bars in BR that I feel comfortable in and like and I've enjoyed everything I've ordered from them and will continue to patronize.
There is a place for both.

I missed this the first time it was posted since I'm not reading this thread very carefully but just for the sake of accuracy, I didn't say what's being quoted with my name above.

I'm not going to lie, I thought moving the benches was pretty funny. Maybe not right, but funny.
