And the fact that storeowners don't own the streets, either.

3. benches in front of the food cart. why would someone admit to moving the benches, give me a break, HELLO? are you serious. this guy thinks he owns that corner -- NOT TRUE -- vendors are mobile, mobile be the operative word here. HE DOES NOT OWN THAT CORNER, HE CAN FIND ANOTHER CORNER, may be should try 13th ave or anywhere in borough park. Wait, you won't find a street vendor on 13th ave in borough park, I wonder why -- BECAUSE THE STOREOWNERS STAND BY EACH ONE ANOTHER and won't have it.

Funny, "maria k" said that too -- and it's still irrelevant. Illegal vendors of illegal goods aren't the equivalent of a legal vendor doing legal business in an unrestricted (legal) location.lonestar wrote:I can't wait for the knock-off vendors to set up shop somewhere on 3rd ave.
Do we plan to ban businesses whose owners don't live in BR, and-or would you suggest en-masse forensic accountings of all BR businesses to insure that they're not pulling a "Kettle Black"?lonestar wrote:i for one know I spend every $$ i make in the same community I live and pay taxes.
lonestar wrote:and since when is standing on a street corner and getting hit with a halal cart a crime (while standing and talking to Vincent Gentile). When did L* become a bully.
Wait -- so those drunks come from your place?lonestar wrote:Most of my customers DO NOT eat street meat, except maybe the asshats at the end of the night to drunk to realize they are eating mystery meat off the street.
Have you examined kosher slaughter, too? Are you saying that this protest is really about animal rights v. halal/kashrut laws? Will it expand to examine slaughterhouse practice by all BR meat sources? This could really get out of hand.lonestar wrote:what is halal meat anyway? do they cut the necks of these lambs and chickens and let them bleed out unhumanely as reported?
So issue-avoidance is the next tactic in this campaign?maria k wrote:Can't believe anyone would eat from those carts anyway. Just plain gross imo.

From the story: "[S]everal merchants, including Lone Star Bar owner Tony Gentile — a longtime critic of Kassen’s cart — created a human barricade, preventing him from backing in"; and
"A police source said that Middle Eastern’s permits are in order, so, if any charges were filed, Gentile would have been taken away in handcuffs since he was preventing a permitted merchant from doing business on a city sidewalk."
Quack quack quack
[The funny thing is if their wasn't a demand for them in the community they'd quickly go out of business]

Have you complained that the police lied?lonestar wrote:From the story: "[S]everal merchants, including Lone Star Bar owner Tony Gentile — a longtime critic of Kassen’s cart — created a human barricade, preventing him from backing in"; and

WERE YOU THERE?
didn't think so
How did you miss that? See http://www.brooklynpaper.com/stories/34 ... 06_bk.htmllonestar wrote:i have no idea what your reference to kettle black means. ????>????
Most of us base purchases on what-we-want and on other factors -- not on where the owners live or what they spend locally. In fact, I find that "just saying" a bit creepy when it's used as ammo to block a licensed food vendor. Should I start vetting everyone I buy from? Avoid places whose owners/employees live in Queens or Bensonhurst or Sunset Park?lonestar wrote:i just made a statement, doubtful that the street vendor spends his cash in this community (just saying)
Again: You are not doing yourself/ your cause any good.lonestar wrote:how about a vendor selling peanuts on 3rd ave., those guys have permits. you get the reference, just being an asshole seems to me OBSERVATEUER
The issue is the opponents' actions/attitudes. It wouldn't matter who or which business was being loudest about it. (And fyi, I have no beef with Lonestar and know it only as a passerby.)maria k wrote:Wonder where new york city falls on the fattest cities in America list? Sounds like some have more issues or agendas against l===star than the food carts. Maybe not enough pay back drinks or drink specials.

Most bars in Bay Ridge.
lonestar wrote:4. there has been no bullying, in fact it's the street vendor is the bully, never once did one store-owners use bully tactics. PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS STATEMENT!
not true, the community board does not want them but again afraid to made a statement out of fear (being PC)
the 86st BID does not want them. 5th Ave. BID does not want them either.

Park Slope can ban ice cream carts cause it makes the babies cry, but Bay Ridge can't .......

Tongue-in-cheek.

Maybe you should leave the community a little bit. Might do you some good. I work in Manhattan, but then come home and spend money in Bay Ridge. I guess I'm not better than the food cart guys.
Really? Because you sure act like you think you do! In fact, it seems like you're the big sidewalk sheriff of 5th Ave.
How would you like if someone came and put a bench in front of the door to your abomination of an establishment.
Actually, I think the knockoffs are already on 86th St near to the train entrance. But nobody cares.
Wow, you really are as ignorant as you sound. I've eaten at your place once and was overwhelmed by the grease and the drunk asshats that populate your establishment. I DARE YOU to post all of your suppliers. All of that crap is mass-produced, factory-farmed, genetically modified, mutant meat/vegetables similar to what I could buy in the frozen aisle at Costco.86er
only cuz i have a friend in DOH...
supposedly they are working to put a cart like that near shore Rd for the summer
lonestar wrote:umm, excuse me but we never met, I work in Manhattan and have been for over 27 years, I buy my coffee from a guy in a cart three times a week and my fruit from some nice ladies in a street cart as well.
my establishment is an abomination: YAWN, i will succeed in spite of people like you. feeling something a little personal here, not surprisingly.
Actually, I think the knockoffs are already on 86th St near to the train entrance. But nobody cares.
let's see Patty's Meat Market supplies my meat and Jetro for everything else -- there you go ASSHAT! i do not have a membership at Costco, 86er, enjoy your day!

If by serving unhealthy food & inflated booze prices is success, you are already there. And if you believe in bullying and have an extreme double standard by anyone else that's trying to make a buck - you are a champion.

But it's now beyond moving benches.
And before the food cart was there, Pizza Wagon attracted rowdy drunks who polluted the sidewalks ...gee wonder why nobody was complaining then.
It's a bit weird to have a bar owner complain about drunks near a no-alcohol halal cart. Wouldn't it be more effective to shut down the bars these drunks came from and the delis that sold them beer?

Well, I'd rather those people work in their cart than collect unemployment.
As I've said before, I've never eaten from those Carts, but I may just have to go get some of their food and stand in front of L* eating it.
